چکیده

Environmental pollution is an important issue in metropolitan areas, and roadside trees are directly affected by various sources of to which they exhibit numerous responses. The aim the present study was identify morpho-physio-biochemical attributes maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba L.) American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis growing under two different air quality conditions (roadside with high pollution, RH low RL) assess possibility using their physiological biochemical parameters as biomonitoring tools urban areas. results showed that photosynthetic rate, nitrogen-use efficiencies, photochromic contents were generally both G. P. occidentalis. However, water-use efficiency leaf temperature values trees. Among parameters, biloba, lipid peroxide content higher than RL trees, but occidentalis, this lower In species, activities planted areas levels whereas morphological variables responses pollution. Thus, we concluded it possible determine species-specific regional differences these findings may be helpful for monitoring environmental health

Air quality and trace elements biomonitoring in Tehran urban areas using epiphytic lichen

Background and Objective: Air quality and distribution of trace elements in the Tehran metropolis were evaluated using transplants of the epiphytic lichen Ramalina sinensis. Materials and Methods: Thalli of R. sinensis were collected from a non-contaminated area and transplanted in the six urban sites of Tehran for six months. After the end of the exposure period, the content of twelve element...

The air quality in Danish urban areas.

The Danish air pollution abatement is based by and large on emission control. Since the ratification of the international sulfur protocol of 1985, there has been a continuous tightening of the permissible sulfur content in fuels and of the maximum emissions from power plants. As a consequence, the total annual emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) has been reduced from 450,000 tons in the seventies ...

Assessment of aquatic environmental quality using gyrodactylus sp. as a living probe: parasitic biomonitoring of ecosystem health

Biological indicators are species that can be employed to monitor environmental quality and ecosystem health. Different groups of organisms such as plants, animals, bacteria and parasites regularly produce certain molecular signal in response to changes in their environmental milieu. Parasites are important tools for providing wealth of information on physicochemical quality, environmental stre...
